I had hoped to get this styling the seasons post shot before I went away on holiday but that was beyond optimistic to put it mildly! Having said that it all worked out quite well as my holiday served as the inspiration for my styling this month. I made the most of the good light and styled up one of our built in shelves which doesn’t usually get much photo action as they can be a tad dark. We went to Egypt for 10 days which was just what I needed. Scorching sun, relaxation and a taste of the culture. Sorry to disappoint you if you thought I would thus be including a nod to the pyramids and a camel figurine in this post. We were in the Sanai desert so Ive incorporated this little desert plant friend in this fun cup I picked up from a charity shop. I’ve styled this up with a book as part of what I loved about being on holiday was having so much time to read! I have a renewed commitment to incorporating it into my lunch break before bed each day, instead of having my eyes glued to my phone. And then my sunnies are thrown in there for good measure because oh boy…there was enough sun to replenish my vitamin D reserves for the next year.I’m guessing all of you lovely readers probably have holidays booked particularly as we’ve now hit school holidays! That’s certainly what I start thinking about when July comes. I hope you all have a lovely time and find it just as rejuvenating as I did. I’d been functioning at 100 miles an hour, working way too much and not making enough time for relationships particular the most important one with my Husband. It’s been really good to take stock and realise how being obsessed with work totally clouds my brain and gives me tunnel vision. It’s unhealthy and I need for that to not sit right with me each day or at least listen when my husband tells me to slow down.I hope you enjoyed my little slice of Egypt. If you fancy joining in styling the seasons you can easily style a corner of your home and post it on your blog or twitter or instagram and useing #stylingtheseasons. Don’t forget to tag Katy and Charlotte who head up this whole concept. Then they can see your contributions.
Wow! I was just thinking I first started ‘Something for your screen’ freebies nearly two years ago! I remember sketching out some patterns while I was on holiday in Turkey and working them up on my laptop on the plane ride home! Perhaps when we two years exactly I’ll have to do some kind of extravaganza!
This month I fancied drawing some sunglasses (as you do) and it all stemmed from there. I hope you can put these Summery wallpapers to good use in the coming few months. It’s been amazing to actually meet lots of people over the past few week that tell me they’re using my freebies each month and look forward to each new one. That was my aim and I hope that continues. Sometimes it’s easy to put things out there and wonder if any one really is using them so I thought it would be great if you are using one of my wallpapers and you take a photo then do use #somethingforyourscreen if you upload to instagram! It would be ace to share some of them myself too.
I was excited to be asked to take part in ‘Styling the Seasons’ series thought up by Katy at Apartment Apothecary and Charlotte from Lotts and Lots. I love the idea of not allowing each month to just pass by undocumented but instead styling a surface in your home that reflects that month and what associations it has for you. Months do seem to steamroll by don’t they? Top idea Katy and Charlotte! For September I decided to style my bedside table. I kept it fresh and minimal with lots of white to show new beginnings. September is always a month of new starts for me even since leaving academic terms behind. 3 years ago September was the month Nick and I embarked on marriage, 2 years ago September was the month we were able to raise the funds to move to London for Nick to do his internship and suddenly life was orientated in that direction. Last September I started doing 4 days a week in my job so I could freelance properly on the fifth and inevitably that led me to what I’m doing now. This September Nick leaves paid ministry behind to start a new job and a new chapter which will mean our life looks quite different. There’s always something new and fresh in September! I also love having my bedside table clean and white so that’s the first thing I see when I wake up. A big pile of colour and clutter would more than likely make me want to turn over and go back to sleep! As for the sun glasses….well that’s a nod to my year on year September optimism. I always hold onto summer for dear life, lamenting the dark and cold months ahead so I’m hoping for another wave of sun and heat to round things off. Extra Indian Summer anyone?
If you want to play then style a surface, upload and image and tag Katy and Charlotte on social media and use #StylingTheSeasons.
